Agency expelled by ombudsman scheme facing deadline to pay fine

fIXFLO news story

An agent connected with a firm expelled from the Property Ombudsman scheme in October had until the end of yesterday to pay a £5,000 fine.

Kirklees Council issued a £5,000 fixed penalty notice on Huddersfield agent Gallery, owned by Dennis Goodridge.

The agent, which the local paper has since reported seems to have disappeared from its office, has apparently been trading without being part of a redress scheme.

The three redress schemes have an arrangement by which none will accept an agent expelled by one of them, unless or until the agent has made the payment directed.

In this case, it was directed to pay £2,312 in rent due to a landlord with an additional award of £300. The firm was also told to transfer £975 of tenant deposits.

The firm actually expelled by TPO was Miaisa Ltd, which traded as Gallery@HD1.

It went into liquidation but TPO said its director had set up a new company trading as Gallery.

The local newspaper has gone on to report complaints from landlords and tenants.
