It began when house seller – and former Telegraph property editor – Anna White was sent a touting letter by Winkworth, offering her a hefty discount on fees if she put her home with them.
Naturally, she shared the experience on Twitter.
That prompted Brickworks, an online firm, to contribute another touting letter, also from Winkworth.
Apparently written more in sorrow than anger, the writer does their best to raise touting to art form. Not for them the office template.
The agent mildly castigates the seller for choosing another firm – but says they are not surprised “as you decided not to reply to any of my emails or phone calls since our initial meeting … I personally don’t work like that but I accept that others do”.
The letter goes on to suggest that the seller may not have made the wisest choice – unlike the “savvy owners” in the same area who chose Winkworth because “they were very thoughtful about making the most sensible decision”.
Hmmm. We wonder if this approach will work.
More touting letters welcome! We think they could have potential for a new ‘tout and about’ series.
